our ‘Lab of awesome’ coding program

Lab of Awesome brings together interactive technologies, coding, gaming, virtual reality, augmented reality, and gadgets in a fun hands-on learning environment.

what’s the lab of awesome all about?

Children on the spectrum often really struggle to cope in mainstream education environments. These often-brilliant young people are one of the most common cohorts that we witness dis-engaging from school. These children often become lost to the system. And instead of potentially becoming productive members of the community often need to be supported through life. By giving these young people an alternative and providing them with the tools to show case their strengths we can turn that around.

Lab of Awesome seeks to engage these young people to learn skills and engage with other young people to learn new skills in an environment that is engaging and fun. We intentionally keep the group sizes to no more than 4 children to ensure that the experience isn’t over whelming.

Lab of Awesome brings together interactive technologies, coding, gaming, virtual reality, augmented reality, and gadgets in a fun hands-on learning environment. Together we can learn, create, share, and inspire the next generation with a broad range of technologies to help people positively change their world, and the world around them.

Each coding session runs for 1.5hrs and focuses on using Scratch to create games, animations, text, stories, and music.

“Autistic children who participate in computer coding clubs that utilise their skill strengths show improved confidence and self-esteem, health and wellbeing, and social relationships.”
